Annual day function of our school, PUSA ROAD is going to be held at MAHARASHTRA RANGAYAN Auditorium, Aram Bagh, New Delhi. (Near Rama Krishna Marg's metro station) from 3.00pm onwards on 3rd September 2014.
The tiny tots of DTEA Sr. Sec School, Pusa Road were in for a pleasant surprise on 2 August 2014. A brand new activity room, full of books, toys and other educational aids was inaugurated by Ms. Vinita Shanker, Deputy Director of Education, Zone28. Mrs. Geeta Arunachalam, Principal, in her welcome address said that she wanted the children to come to school eager to learn. Learning should be a pleasure and not a punishment. Ms. Vinita Shanker said she was happy to be a part of such an endeavor and said the facilities in Pusa Road school were at par with the good Public schools. She advised the teachers to hold competitions and give prizes so that the children would be motivated to use the facilities. The students have been provided with lots of education games and other indoor games, visual CDs to teach various subjects . Volunteers from group of senior teachers have been allotted classes to teach in an innovative method
On 31st July and 9th August 2014, Roshini conducted a seminar on personality development, communication skill, Grammar classes, Self confidence development, career counselling for 11th and 12th class girls. Every year our school girl students were given proper training by Roshini and the students excelled in academics were given scholarship of Rs 15000/- per annum.
Uniform of all DTEA DTEA Sr.Sec.Schools had been changed. Free distribution of uniforms to Primary students on 26.07.2014 by our secretary Sh.R.Raju.
Our school was one among 10 schools selected in South Delhi for the above program, to provide awareness about safe water usage in school. Students of 5th to 8th class were periodical training and education in the field of water sanitation and hygiene. The area covered include in the form of five lessons viz. Water and health, Water contamination and water quality test, Water disinfection, water recontamination and safe storage, Hygiene and sanitation. Each lesson also comprised of various innovative activities. The organizers were from CLEAN – India which is a platform for the young generation to carry out environmental assessment, awareness and action with a vision of helping develop cleaner environments.
Ramakrishna mission conducted an awareness program on 15th July 2014 for the classes 6th, 7th, 11th and 12th. The program included a video presentation and the ill-effects of the use of Tobacco which no doubt would have instigated our students to think twice to get addicted to this habit in their life. Mr Sanjeev Nanda headed the program with the cooperation of his team members and with the help of teachers as coordinators. A pre and post questionnaire session was really helpful for the students to understand the extent of seriousness of the disease.
On 26th April, an interaction program on road safety was given by Delhi Traffic Police in the morning assembly. Students were participated in a question answer session regarding rules to be followed to avoid accidents. An Awareness about road safety aspects has been created among students by discussions and small gifts for as a token of appreciation has been given to students. A training program was attended by our P.E.T Sir, Mr. Ravinder on Road Safety on 29th April 2014. Delhi Police assured to give motorcycle training to 20 girls students at Kings way camp, Delhi.
On 22nd April 2014, World Earth Day was celebrated in our school as an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. To know the importance of earth day various activities like quiz program for 12th class, mask making for 10th class on the topics “save animals” and a debate for VIIIth class on the topic “scientific development affect day-to-day activities of human life”. Students acitively participated in all the above programs and a glance on above event are shown in few photographs below
Mulchy-Bulchy is method of converting fallen leaves of trees to compost in various steps. A training on this aspect has been given to students of classes 9th to 12th by Mr. SauravBardhan on 17th April 2014.
For holistic development of a child, fit body is the need of the day. A child can keep himself/herself fit is he/she if free from any disease. The “world health day” is observed on 7th April 2014 in our school with the purpose to create interest and inculcate the significance and importance of maintaining good and sound health among our children. Various activities conducted like organ donation campaign, Skid on benefit on healthy food, speech on the benefit of eating green leafy vegetables and importance of yoga etc.
Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. To shape the students to their destined roles as Scientists, Mathematicians, Thinkers, Social Workers in various walks of life, is the primary responsibility of the Schools. With the influence of computers and internet the habit of reading in the present generation students has become rare. To induce the habit of reading and recapture the fascination of the young minds with attractive books the DTEA Pusa Road has started a library for the primary students. A function was organized in the school on 3rd April 2014 and the Primary Library was inaugurated by Sh. N. Venkataraman, M.D. Solartherme Pvt. Ltd. in the august presence of DTEA President Sh. M. Sooriya Narayanan, Secretary Sh. R. Raju, Committee Members and other guests. Principals of the other DTEA Schools, parents and old students graced the occasion. DTEA, President Sh. M. Sooriyanarayanan while addressing the gathering stressed the importance of reading books and exhorted the children to make reading books a daily habit. The Chief Guest and the Management appreciated the efforts of the Principal Smt. Geeta Arunachalam in realizing the dream of opening a new Primary Library. A Delhi based volunteer organization of public health scientist, health professionals and lawyers engaged in research, education and advocacy related to non-communicable disease prevention, promotion of health diet, physical activity, tobacco control among youth in India. Our school is a active participant of Hriday since 3-4 years and underwent many modules like “breakfast makes me smart”, “My energy balance”, “ My Iron power”, “Go whole grains” , puzzle activities and Signature campaign to create awareness on health.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Kanpur) is conducting a comprehensive study on air pollution and Green house gases in Delhi, awarded by Dept of Environment, Govt of NCT, Delhi. In this regard, an Air Pollution monitoring station was set up at the roof top of Pusa Road school. A survey was carried out for 20 days with the continuous two hours sampling and testing. Two Research Associates were involved and educated our class XI students about sample collection, testing and interpretation.
Maa saraswati pooja was organized for the Board going students of class X and XII on 19th February 2014.
Chrysalis day was organized on 15th February 2014 in our school premises with great zest and enthusiasm. The function was well organized with active participation of students of class 1 to V. The exhibition brought out innovative and creative ideas of showcasing talent and skills of students of the primary classes.
A mock drill on fire safety was observed on 15th February 2014 and a practice was given to the students about the safe exit practice during fire or any emergent situation to avoid stampede. During this even, a skit on safety measures, also demonstrated by 11th class students.
Students of class VIII participated in the Adobe Youth Voices Program Year 8 for the session 2013-14. Throughout the year students were involved in media projects like making documentaries, comics and also made stop motion animations. All the students were awarded certificate for participation in the program at FICCI Auditorium on 13th feb 2014.
Republic day was celebrated at our school by flag hoisting and followed by cultural program by our students. It was memorable due to the active and enthusiastic participation of students from primary to secondary classes.
A team of 40 students of class IX, X and XI went for a visit to National Science Centre, Pragati Maidan with SPWD team on 22 January 2014 as an Educational Trip for one day.

On the occasion of closing ceremony of living soil week from 5th to 11th December 2013, our students from primary, 6th and 9th Std participated in cultural program held at Ghalib Institute Auditorium, ITO, New Delhi. In the above program, 80 students and teachers from 18 schools were participated from different parts of Delhi. Dr Suman Sahai, Chairperson, Gene Campaign distributed the certificates to our students as a consolation prize won by them.
Eco club Incharge Mrs Santhi Nagarajan Presented on 5th December 2013 at SPWD organized by Paryavaran Jagriti Abhiyan on the occasion of World Soil Day program on the topic of Water issues & the role of DTEA Eco-club, Pusa Road, in mitigating environmental issues. Interaction with other members in the Environmental aspects was found to be very useful experience and a value addition. Participants expressed their appreciation about DTEA for involving students in the activities pertaining to environmental protection.
Eco-club (Class 9th) students were engaged in mushroom cultivation activity on 3rd December 2013. Students were given practical exposure to different steps of cultivation of mushroom and also taught to use waste materials like wheat stalks, rugs, waste papers , etc., for cultivation. In the process they learned about the nutritional value of mushrooms.
A group of 40 students of classes 9thand 10th visited Yamuna Biodiversity park located at Jharoda Majra (near village Jagatpur), Wazirabad, Delhi on 29th November 2013 as a field visit to be part of Environmental Awareness Educational Program. It is an Eco-club activity which help the children to enhance the awareness of the Biodiversity wealth to develop knowledge and understanding about Biodiversity, the nature and function of the eco system and how they are inter related and the impact of people on environment. The main objective of this program to to educate the children the importance of Biodiversity, specially in the urban environment and identify how human’s are dependent on it for a healthy life. The visit also provided an unique opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of Biodiversity for sustainable development.
Classes 9th and 10th were taken on to a picnic to Adventure Island, Rohini on 27th November 2013. The breakfast and lunch were included in the package along with the fun rides. It was a real fun and enjoyed with great spirit and thrill.Click here for more photographs
The classes of 11th and 12th class of about 90 students along with teachers visited the Adventure Island located at Rohini Metro Walk on 19.11.2013. Students were provided welcome drink on board and enjoyed the fun rides, rain dance, Splash boat riding, etc. After 4-5 hours of complete colourful fun & pleasure return home and the some glimpses of the event are shown here.Click here for more photographs
Every year, on the occasion of the celebration of Children's Day, Nov. 14th, Ramana Kendra, a Social Trust distributes free school uniform and stationery items to the poor and needy children of different schools.This year 10 students of DTEA, Pusa Road from classes 6-10 received the free school uniform and stationery items at their Lodhi Road Office on Sunday, the 17th of Nov. 2013. The school also extends its gratitude to the continued service of this organisation since so many years.
DTEA School, Pusa Road is one of the proud members of the RK Mission since number of years . This year too, our children participated in the Annual Vivekananda Competition. The first stage of the competition was conducted in the school premises under the supervision of the teachers. A questionnaire of multiple choice questions were given by the mission itself. 21 students from the Junior level and 30 students from the Senior level got selected in the first stage. The second stage of the competition was held on the 8th of October 2013 in the Mission's premises. 10 students from the Junior level and 10 from the Senior level participated and received the certificates.
On 14th November 2013, one of the activities of children’s day celebrations, the class 11th & 12th students were shown a documentary film on the topic “Organic Farming” in order to give awareness to the students of how to conserve, protect and not to pollute our precious national resource- our mother earth (soil). The film named “Timbaktu” awarded the best 60th national film award of 2012. The students were happy to watch, learn, know and fill the questionnaire provided by the team from Paryavaran Jagriti Abhiyan.
For all the classes 6th to 12th a competition of portrait sketching of chacha Nehru, were conducted and the winners were awarded prizes. The competitions were held at our school Library and drawing room. A very good response from students participations in large numbers indicated students zeal and enthusiasm. The pencil sketch of chacha Nehru were displayed in the Notice Board for public view.
Our Eco-club students organises plantation drive at our school premises every year. This year 2013 also we were planning to organize plantation drive by 3rd week of August 2013. Students were asked to make slogans and charts on the significance of trees to create awareness, usefulness and importance of trees for the environment and a speech on the topic - Trees was given by Tanya, (10th A student) during morning assembly on tree plantation day. Students were encouraged to bring plant saplings of each one and taught how to care them in their surroundings (nearby residential areas, parks , school etc) . From the plantation Drive they learnt to make our country greener . eco-friendly and beautiful with the motto of “Save Nature for our Future”
On 30 Oct 2012 Department of Environment organized an important meeting related to the issue of NGC program which was attended by 4 students of 10th , 11th class students and Eco-club teacher. Students were asked to fill up the questionnaire issued by the concerned authorities. Dr. B. C. Sabata attended the program and encouraged the students to involve more in numbers for eco friendly activities.
A total of 20 girl students presented a dance program to public at one of the famous commercial hub of delhi. INA MARKET ON 27/01/2013. The theme of the dance program was on “CONSERVATION OF WATER ”. The program was appreciated by one and all and certificates were distributed to all the participants . The highlight of the program was the joint secretary to Ministry of Environment, NCT Delhiattended and appreciated the students effort towards joining hands with the environment department to make awareness to the public in whatever little way they can do.
On 22/09/2012 Earth watch Institute in association with G B Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development (GBPIHED) and with the support of Ministry of Environment, NCT Delhi organised a Teach Earth Program at Kullu (HP) for Teachers and Lecturers of Delhi. As an Eco club Incharge of DTEA Sr Secondary School, PGT Chemistry got the opportunity in above said 7 days program.☻ Aim & Objectives of the program:
1. To undertake in depth Research & Developmental studies on Environmental problems of the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) 2. To identify and strengthen the local knowledge of the Environment and contribute towards strengthening Researchers of Regional relevance in the scientific institutions, universities. Schools, NGO’s and voluntary agencies through interactive networking 3. Evolve and demonstrate suitable technological packages and delivery systems for sustainable development of the region in harmony with local perceptions
Every Year 28th February is celebrated as Science Day. This year too Ministry of Environment, Govt. Of NCT of Delhi organised a program at Delhi Haat, Pitampura. DTEA sr secondary school, Pusa Road is very much privileged for having got an opportunity to be a part of this program. The teacher in-charge of Eco Club Mrs. Santhi Nagarajan along with 3 students displayed various types of mushroom and peppermint plants grown in our school premises and promoted the same for sale. The main aim of the exhibit was to create an awareness on the use of protein rich Mushrooms in our daily diet. The people were also explained about the use of waste materials such as paddy straws, wheat stalks, paper materials etc. The process was explained as waste management used for cultivation of Mushrooms . Many other schools, from Delhi also participated in above said program.
A total of 10 students of classes VIII to XII participated in the “Earth Day Carnival” in association with WWF-India held at Hon’ble chief Minister’s Residence (No3, Motilal Nehru place, New Delhi on 26/04/2013. Our students participated in Animal mask painting, signature campaign and poster making competitions and received the participants prizes from WWF-India
Aravali Foundation for Education (AFE) has sanctioned a project called “3D Cool Roof Project” on May 2012. Our students of 9th & 10th class actively participated in construction of two identical structures with prescribed specifications for experimental study and involved in data collection. Students recorded the temperature daily for one month with the two structure of one which is painted white on the roof with mutkas (terracota) and other with normal concrete roof. A detailed report on the above project was prepared along with data and sent to the AFE. AFE sanctioned Rs 15000/- for above project which was utilised for the construction and for purchase of gifts to the students.

Indian Institute of Ecology & Environment, New Delhi and the Awards committee jointly with IAEWP (International Association of Education for World Peace). The Global open university Nagaland, Indira Gandhi Technological & Medical Sciences University,AP and the confederation of Indian Universities appreciated the outstanding contribution by Eco-Club, DTEA Sr Sec School, Pusa Road in the area of environment education and development and conferred our school as Eco-friendly school of the year 2013 award at the function held at India International centre, lodi estate on 5th & 6th June 2013.
DTEA Sr Secondary school, pusa road has a facility of book bank for the students at school Library. The book bank was inaugurated by Sh Surinder Pal Ratawal MLA, Karolbagh zone, Delhi Govt. on 2nd July 2013. Students are showing interest to register their names in getting the books.
All Non – Teaching Staff of D.T.E.A. Sr. Sec. School, Pusa Road, were given Paper Recycling Training on 15/05/2013 (during summer vacation) by Eco – club In-charge Mrs. Santhi Nagarajan. The Paper Wastes collected during Exams and in the school office were recycled in proper way and the same was utilised to make beautiful files and folders for office use.
10 students from Eco-club of DTEA Sr Sec School, pusa road, along with Eco-club Incharge, Mrs Santhi Nagarajan PGT Chemistry, participated in the celebration of International Biological Diversity Day held at Delhi Secretariat. The students listened to the speech by experts from various fields participated on the activities on the themes on water and biodiversity and received certificates from Secretary, Ministry of Environment.
Successfully completed and submitted report on project:“climate change mitigation through cool roofs” jointly implemented by “Aravali Foundation for Education & Dept of Environment, Govt of NCT New Delhi. A demonstration model of the cool roofs was created by students of Pusa Road as a mini project with the support of Principal Mrs. Geeta Arunachalam and under the guidance of Eco club Incharge Mrs santhi Nagarajan in 2012-13. A felicitation function was organized for the 18 selected participant schools at Delhi Secretariat on 3rd May 2013 at 10:30 AM and awarded certificates and momento for Eco Department as a token of appreciation.
5th September is celebrated as teachers day all over India. On this day, students express their love and affection to their teachers who play a very important role in developing their personality and future. In DTEA, Janakpuri, as is the practice every year, this year too, teachers day was celebrated. The students garlanded the photograph of the great philosopher and educationist. Speeches were given in Hindi, English and Tamil on the contribution of Dr. Radhakrishnan in the field of education and on teachers student relationship. At a time when the student teacher relationship is under great strain, the day marked the importance of this relationship more than ever. The short assembly concluded with a speech of the vice principal Ms. Uma Rao, who wished all the teachers a very (Happy Teachers Day).
